With various leaks pointing to the Dendro Archon Nation of Sumeru as the next destination, details about this region have been relatively scarce. However, a recent leak hints that travelers can expect to explore Sumeru, potentially arriving in August this year.
Leak Reveals August Release for Sumeru Region
Genshin Impact's Sumeru region is home to the Dendro element, which is said to be arriving in the 3.0 update. According to a brand new leak posted on the Genshin Impact Leaks subreddit, the 3.0 update appears to be coming in August 2022.
The supposed release date for the Sumeru region supports reports that miHoYo planned to release a new region every year.
This rumor further confirms the Mondstadt and Liyue region releases in Update 1.0, the game launching on September 28, 2020, and Inazuma in Update 2.0 on July 21, 2021.
Sumeru will be the fourth region introduced in the game, leaving four more regions: Fontaine, Natlan, Snezhnaya, and Khaenri'ah to be released in the coming years. This gives the game a five to eight year timeline to explore Teyvat.
Developer miHoYo has already drawn on real-world influences for its regions. For example, Germany inspired Mondstadt, while China and Japan inspired Liyue and Inazuma respectively. However, it seems that Sumeru will draw influences from countries and territories in the Middle East and South Asia, which will inspire the mythologies and environments of the region.
What do we know about the Sumeru region?
We have already reported on this region. For example, we revealed that Sumeru is known for its vast desert areas and lush forests. We also know that it is the home of the Archon Dendro, the God of Wisdom, whose main ability is to draw power for the creation of life.
This is evident from the early renders of the game leaked last year, which gave some insight into the design of the Sumeru region. Additionally, travelers can expect to see plenty of trees, greenery, and flora sprawling throughout the area based on these designs.
Sumeru is rumored to feature Genshin Impact's first Dendro character, Yaoyao, which is currently in development.
According to previous information leaked by reliable Genshin source Lumie, we also have an idea of what the character might look like; however, no details about his elemental skill or burst have been revealed.
With Yaoyao supposed to arrive before or with the 3.0 update, other leaks suggest two more Sumeru characters may be joining the game.
From what we learned from the Genshin Impact manga, Cyno and Collei will be the core characters in the region due to their connection to Sumeru Academia.
We still have a lot to decipher about the mysterious region of Sumeru, and as such you should take the information provided with a grain of salt.
We will continue to update the story once new information becomes available.
