ATLAS: Guide du dressage, taming

Our articles on ATLAS ATLAS: Training guide, taming On ATLAS, the pirate game, it is possible to tame and train an animal to make it a traveling companion or even a mount.

While many players only consider navigation and combat in ATLAS, the new pirate MMO, the survival game has plenty of other options for having fun in this universe. Indeed, in addition to crafting, it is also possible to tame an animal in order to make it a companion or even a mount.

Although the ATLAS map is mainly covered with water (see our detailed ATLAS map), wildlife is nevertheless abundant on the many islands in the game. It is therefore not uncommon to come across wild animals during your explorations in unknown territory. Nevertheless, did you know that it is possible to tame them?

How to unlock the Taming talent?

Among the different actions possible in the game, the majority of them come from your talent tree (see our beginner's guide) which will allow you, according to your choices, to obtain new skills.

Regarding the training of wild animals, you will have to go up several levels in order to be able to unlock the following talents:

→ In the survival part, the Tools of the Trade and Hand-to-Hand Combat talents

→ These two points will then unlock the Beastmastery part

→ This new tab will give you access to the training skill (Animal Taming)

How to get an animal?

The process for the moment is quite laborious because you will have to inflict damage on the animal (without killing it) to then catch it and feed it… All while sometimes repeating the process several times depending on the animal. Also, some beasts require special resources (like honey for bears) in order to feed them.

What are the benefits of having a pet?

Obviously, having an animal implies obtaining a gain in return for the talent points used to obtain the training skill. The interest of taming a wild animal will depend on your choice of the beast.

List of some interesting animals to tame:

→ A cow : With a chicken, the cow is surely the best animal to obtain early in the game in order to regularly recover resources (here milk) to feed itself. Also, the domestication process is quite simple since passive (no need to repeat 10 bolas on the animal).

→ Horse : Probably the most profitable animal to train since it will serve as a mule to transport equipment and thus build faster. Also, they are not very hard to find and you will only need cane sugar to get them.

→ An elephant : Obtaining an elephant is quite complicated since you will need to organize yourself to find one, have enough food to domesticate and feed it, but also have a ship large enough to transport it. However, its yield is quite incredible since it can harvest several thousand units of wood in a few minutes (at least with current yields) in addition to mount service for 3 people.

→ A bear : Bears are quite rare and require honey to be tamed. However, they turn out to be one of the interesting animals to have (it can bring back several types of resources, in particular fruits) although it remains complicated to keep alive. Also, walking next to a bear (or using it as a mount) usually works against other players...

As mentioned above, it is not not so easy to tame an exotic animal since the latter will need to eat rare resources, sometimes difficult to find in the surroundings. That's why we recommend getting your hands on some "basic" animals before trying your luck on a bear or a tiger.

Take care of your animal

Be careful, if domesticating an animal can be a difficult task, keeping it alive can also be long and complicated. Let's take the example of a wolf, the latter can claim several hundred bones from you in a game session, especially if it takes damage or if you put it to work shortly after capturing it.

Having a wild animal is a full-time job on ATLAS

To note that if his hit points drop below 10%, you risk losing your animal forever if it will not be possible to reuse your Bola directly after the link has broken between you and the animal (the latter regains 50% of its HP at once by becoming neutral again... ).

Therefore, perhaps do not get attached too quickly to your new pet if you are new to the game and your preparation is not optimal.
