Error code 38 is an old problem dating back to the Modern Warfare era, as Warzone essentially shares the game client with the 2019 Call of Duty game.

This error code prevents players from joining a match, or in some cases stops the game loading altogether.

It usually appears when there is an update for the game and that update was not downloaded completely or installed correctly, resulting in an invalid installation. For example, if your Internet connection is interrupted during the update or if your system was turned off during the installation process.

In these two cases, the first thing to do is to check if your game is up to date.

For Battle.net, simply click the Cog (Options) icon next to the “Play” button and select “check for updates”. If the installation was not successfully completed, you must also perform the "Scan and Repair" action.

For bracket, do the following:

  1. Close the Pacific Warzone.
  2. Go to your games library / My games and applications.
  3. Find Pacific Warzone
  4. Select the "Options" button
  5. Tap the 'Check for Updates' (PlayStation) or 'Manage Game' option, then scroll down to 'Downloads' (Xbox)
  6. Install the update if available

This should fix Warzone Pacific and you should be able to play the game without error code 38 appearing again.

If the problem persists, we advise you to submit a ticket to Activision support.
