How to get the giant water bug in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

A new month means new Animal Crossing: New Horizons fish and bugs. If you're in the Northern Hemisphere, the giant water bug is one of April's trickiest newcomers.

You will find the giant water bug with fish. It is not a flying insect, like most other insects in the game, as it perches directly above water. You can think of it almost like a caterpillar, just on the water.

The giant water bug appears in ponds between 19 p.m. and 8 a.m. daily. You can find them in ponds on your island, but you might have better luck on one of the mystery islands you can visit using a Nook Miles Ticket. Some of these destinations have a lot more pond space.

When you see one idling in the water, walk slowly to a good capture spot. Don't run to the shore or you'll scare her off. Press A to move slowly until you are a short distance away. You may have to wait a bit for it to get close enough to land for you to catch it.

There is no rush to catch this bug. It is available from April to September in the Northern Hemisphere and October to March in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Giant Water Bug is a great bug to snag whenever you see one. It's worth 2 bells. But showing your first to Blathers and making the poor guy cry in dismay is priceless.
