How to Change Pokémon Nickname in Pokémon Sparkling Diamond and Sparkling Pearl

A nickname is one of the most important things in developing a closer bond with a Pokémon. Nicknames are even required in some Pokémon challenges, like Nuzlockes, so players feel more attached to their "mons." However, some nicknames are either forced on players or incorrect. The Nintendo Switch keyboard isn't always the most reliable thing, so players often make mistakes when typing a Pokemon's nickname.

If this happened to you in Pokémon Sparkling Diamond and Sparkling Pearl, or if you just want to change a Pokémon's nickname, you'll probably want to change that name. The question is, how can you do this in Sinnoh? The answer is by visiting a specific NPC, whose location can be found below.

The only requirement to change a Pokémon's nickname in Sparkling Diamond and Sparkling Pearl is to travel to Eterna City. This is where Gardenia is, the second Gym Leader in the game, and also where you can get the bike and win the HM for Cut.

Before you do anything, though, you can change a Pokémon's nickname for free by visiting a certain NPC. This NPC is located in the Eterna Condominiums, which is right next to the Poké Mart in the southern part of town.

Inside the large building, you can find the NPC you are looking for right away. The old man sitting at the table with the blue chairs is the Name Assessor, and he can rate and change your Pokémon's nicknames. All you have to do is talk to it and select the Pokemon whose nickname you want to change.

After the name evaluator evaluates the nickname, they will give you the option to edit it. This will bring up the naming screen with the keyboard. From there, it's just a matter of entering a new nickname for the selected Pokemon. You can now change the nickname of any 'mon in Pokémon Sparkling Diamond and Sparkling Pearl, including traded Pokémon.
