How does the Fortnite Impostors mode work? Challenges, roles, gameplay and more

As part of Fortnite update 17.40, a new limited game mode is now available, based on Innersloth's hit title "Among Us", called Impostors.

Fortnite: Impostors is tied to Jones' betrayal of the Imagined Order, so players will now have the option to take sides, either to hold the bridge or sabotage the Imagined Order from within.

Let's take a look at how this game mode plays out and how you can win by being either an agent or an impostor.

Fortnite Impostors mode: gameplay and roles

This mode is designed for games with up to 10 players, where two of them will be the imposters and try to take over an area known as "the bridge".

Play as an agent

Agents will try to do their best to defend and keep the location safe while performing various tasks to keep the Imagined Order facilities running.

If you are an Agent, you will have to do everything to find the Imposters. If you find another Agent's eliminated shard, you can report it and all players will be transported to the center of the deck, where they will have to decide which person will leave the game by voting.

At the end of each chat, Agents and Imposters will vote to either kick someone off the bridge or ignore their vote for that chat. You need to carefully consider the accusations and objections of others: if the rejected person was actually an agent, then the imposters will be one step closer to eliminating everyone.

Play like an impostor

The rest of the participants will become impostors, who will try to sabotage all the work of the agents and eliminate them during the game. If you are one of them, you can disable tasks and teleport agents to hide possible clues to your guilt.

Like Agents, Imposters will have a list of missions they can complete to earn everyone's trust. Be careful, though: for each mission you complete, you bring agents closer to their completion goal.

Imposters will also have a tool called "Peely Party". With this, they can make all participants look like Peely, which will create confusion and chaos among them.

The only ways to win in any of the roles are as follows:

  • As an agent, you must complete all missions or vote against all imposters and claim victory for IO
  • As an impostor, you must eliminate enough agents to take control of the bridge before being discovered

Players can queue with any party size and all remaining slots will be filled. To keep the game fair and fun, public voice chat will be disabled in Imposters, but you can still talk in party chat and use emotes and the quick chat menu to communicate with all players.
