With the launch of Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 and players enjoying the latest map changes, new POVs, Battle Pass rewards and more on the island map, there's a lot to like. Console players have noticed another gameplay change they can't make since the update was released.

Prior to this, console players could use the split-screen feature during multiplayer matches through a few steps provided by Epic Games on their FAQ page. This feature is still not available for mobile, Nintendo Switch, and PC players.

It looks like the feature has been temporarily disabled and many are wondering why. As such, Epic Games has provided some details on why split screen has been disabled on consoles.

Ever since Fortnite introduced Chapter 3 Season 1 this month, Fortnite players have noted the inability to use the split-screen feature. Some have speculated that Epic Games likely disabled the feature as a way to track its servers to allow more players access to the latest update.

According to the Fortnite Trello community forum, Epic Games has a card that lists "Splitscreen Disabled" as one of several issues highlighted under "Top General Issues". The Fortnite Support Team is currently "investigating" the issue as per the note on the map, but once the issue is resolved the team will notify players through the appropriate channels.

As it stands, we don't know if the split-screen feature will return to Fortnite anytime soon, but at this time, split-screen is currently not available to all Fortnite console players.

  1. Access the main game lobby menu from your main account.
  2. Turn on a second controller and use another player's login credentials to log in when prompted.
