Civilization VI's Rise & Fall extension brings its share of new features as always. Among these, Firaxis Games adds civilizations to us, to extend the gaming experience and the variety of strategies for all players, from the most neophytes to the most knowledgeable. Let's take a look at one of these new civilizations, Queen Wilhelmina's Netherlands.
Capacity exclusive : Great Rivers
This ability gives you significant bonuses for campuses, industrial zones or theater squares that you place on a space adjacent to a river. It is a reference from the developers to the rich Dutch ports and maritime routes, which have made and still make the wealth of the country.
Exclusive Leader Bonus: Radio Oranje
Queen Wilhelmina's bonus gives you +1 identity (much boosts your citizens' loyalty) for each Trade route for the city from which this route originates.
Also, a Trade route to (or from) a foreign city from (or to) one of your cities will earn you +1 Culture.
In terms of your relations with the other leaders, you should know that Wilhelmine will appreciate the leaders who send her Trade Routes, and on the contrary, will tend to be cold with the leaders who ignore her.
Exclusive development: the Polder
Polder bonus: +2 Food, +1 Production, +0,5 Dwellings
Polders are stretches of land reclaimed from water, like extensions of the base territory. Indeed, with Wilhelmine you will be able to gain ground on the water, and thus extend your base territory. To build one, you will need at least 3 adjacent squares of land (and none can be a hill square). Note that the appearance of your polders will change depending on your era or your progress in the technology tree.
Unité exclusive : The Seven Provinces
Unit Features: 4 Movement, 50 Power, 60 Remote power, 2 Range
To form this unit, you will need to have completed the “Square Sails” technology. Replacing the Frigate, this Renaissance unit is a naval unit that has more damage, including a bonus against entrenched districts, but a penalty against other ships.
How to play the Netherlands?
With this civilization, two choices are possible. You can decide to earn Culture, by building as many trade routes as possible with as many cities as possible in order to take advantage of the exclusive bonus. You can also compete for victory Scientific, but be careful, your environment will have to be very favorable to activate your exclusive ability, which gives you a bonus for campuses. Regarding the Military victory, you will have to hope for a maritime map, and be on a continent favorable to the development of a fleet and polders. If you succeed, you can then take advantage of your rebirth power to conquer at least one other civilization and use the trade routes to increase the loyalty of your new cities. Be careful during the early game, the Netherlands will have a hard time against certain civilizations like Scythia or Summer.
